Thank you for purchasing the snorkel guide, which is a joint product of Yayasan Kamtabai Raja Ampat (Waisai) and Reef Guardian non-profit (Leipzig, Germany). We hope that you will have fun with it and that you will encounter many of the introduced fish.
Being passionate snorkelers ourselves, we compiled this guide as a quick reference to the many fish one encounters when snorkeling Raja Ampat’s waters. You will notice that we at times opted for presenting the entire family of fish (when you are likely to find many species, e.g. butterflyfish) or, for different reasons, a specific one.
The informative texts aim to introduce the fish or family with a few key facts, researched online and based on our best knowledge and experience (we are not marine biologists, but we have seen all the presented fish while snorkeling Raja Ampat). If you spot any mistakes, or if you feel an important fish is missing, please drop us a line.

P.S.: Unless you found this guide there already, we recommend that you visit Toko Matenhun in Waisai, a small shop that sells handmade products from Raja Ampat’s villages. The store itself is the result of a joint project between our associations that started during the pandemic, when tourism-related incomes were near zero.
